StrongestLayer, a San Francisco-based email security startup, has raised $4.1 million in new seed funding, bringing its total seed funding to $9.3 million.
The funding round was led by Inovia Capital, with participation from existing investor Sorenson Capital and new investors LaunchPod, Alumni Ventures, and former Mandiant Chief Product Officer Chris Key.
According to the company, the new capital will support platform development, expand go-to-market operations, and help prepare for a future Series A funding round.
Focus on AI-driven email threats
StrongestLayer says its platform is designed to address increasingly sophisticated email attacks that may evade traditional detection methods. Rather than relying primarily on signatures or known attack patterns, the company says its technology uses AI-based reasoning to evaluate the intent and business context of email messages.
The announcement comes as email security vendors continue to develop AI-powered tools in response to the growing use of generative AI and advanced social engineering techniques by cybercriminals.
Company research
As part of the announcement, StrongestLayer shared findings from research conducted between December 2025 and February 2026. According to the company, analysis of thousands of email threats found that more than one-third of attacks reaching inboxes could not be reliably detected by conventional pattern-matching and behavioral detection techniques.
These findings are based on StrongestLayer’s own research and have not been independently verified.
StrongestLayer was founded in 2024 and is headquartered in San Francisco.
