Resilience can grow stronger overtime, but for many of us, it’s tested at an early age. Team member, Eugene Clifford (he/him/his), shares his journey to becoming comfortable being authentically himself.

“I came out to everyone quite young. I was 14 when I realized and just turned 17 when I told everybody. At the time, I was determined not to be one of "those gays" — you know... the flamboyant ones that seem to be having fun and embracing who they are? In my family, being gay was fine but being camp was not. It took me a long time to get over that, and I still have some lingering prejudices. Once I joined workspaces that had openly gay people, I realized just how much time and energy I wasted trying to maintain the masculine facade. Now I act according to what feels most comfortable and encourage people to be themselves. You do you, not what people expect from you. Whether that's camp, grunge, goth, nerd, whatever! Be happy.”
