SendGrid February 2026 Incidents: What Really Happened

In early February 2026, Twilio SendGrid reported several service incidents. In its incident notes, SendGrid emphasized that mail sending was not impacted. While technically correct, that statement doesn’t fully capture how these issues affected day-to-day email operations.

Here’s what actually happened, and why it matters.

What Happened

Marketing Campaigns and API Errors

SendGrid later disclosed a retroactive incident on February 3, 2026, from 10:08–10:26 AM PT. During this 18-minute window, customers encountered 500 errors when performing certain Marketing Campaigns and API actions.

Affected actions included:

  • Creating Single Sends
  • Managing Automations
  • Uploading contacts
  • Making API configuration changes

SendGrid stated that:

  • Email delivery itself was not affected
  • Legacy Marketing Campaigns continued to function normally
  • No mail was lost
  • Full functionality was restored after the incident

Advanced Stats Data Delay

SendGrid also reported a separate data processing issue affecting Advanced Stats. A processing gap occurred on January 27, 2026, between 7:00–9:00 AM PT, resulting in missing or incomplete reporting data for that two-hour period.

According to SendGrid:

  • Daily reports may be off by ~8.3%
  • Weekly reports by ~1.2%
  • Monthly reports by ~0.3%

The Advanced Stats API remained online, and email sending was not impacted.

Why This Matters Operationally

Sending Isn’t the Whole System

Even when emails are successfully sent, many critical workflows depend on Marketing Campaigns and API functionality, including:

  • Uploading and updating contacts
  • Syncing suppression and unsubscribe data
  • Editing, pausing, or adjusting automations
  • Updating segmentation logic
  • Completing configuration or approval changes

When these actions fail, even briefly, teams can temporarily lose control over lifecycle management and governance, despite campaigns continuing to send.

Reporting Gaps Create Blind Spots

Advanced Stats are used to evaluate performance, confirm campaign behavior, and inform future planning. Missing or incomplete data windows reduce visibility and can complicate post-campaign analysis, especially for teams relying on precise metrics.

What Teams Should Watch For

Even when SendGrid reports that sending is operational, teams may want to double-check for:

  • Failed or incomplete contact imports
  • Delays in suppression or unsubscribe syncing
  • Automation changes that didn’t save
  • Duplicate or delayed campaign launches
  • Flatlined or missing reporting data

“Mail send wasn’t impacted” describes message transmission, not the full operational picture.

Modern email programs depend on lifecycle controls, data integrity, and reporting visibility in addition to delivery. When those supporting systems are temporarily unavailable or incomplete, operational risk increases, even if messages continue to go out.
