Proton Mail has released new versions of its mobile apps for iOS and Android. The apps have been rebuilt from the ground up, with changes to performance, offline functionality, and platform consistency.
Changes in the Updated Apps
- Offline Mode: Users can read, compose, and organize emails without an internet connection. Changes sync automatically when connectivity is restored.
- Platform Consistency: Features are now aligned between iOS and Android.
- Performance Improvements: Loading times and navigation have been updated following a complete rewrite of the app code.
- Shared Codebase: Approximately 80% of the code is shared between the two platforms, aimed at simplifying development and updates.
The updated apps also incorporate changes to the underlying architecture and use of programming languages, including Rust components, to support the new structure. Read more on the Proton Blog
