OpenAI used its DevDay keynote today to launch Dots, always-on agents that run on its GPT-6 Astra model with their own cloud computer and browser. Sam Altman also announced “specialist dots”. Email marketing was one of five roles on the slide, next to accounting, legal analysis and ticket resolution.
The announcement says specialist dots were tested inside OpenAI across procurement, invoice processing, email marketing, customer support and commercial contracting. Altman told the audience they had been “remarkably effective in many roles”.
What you can get today is narrower. Specialist dots are at the enterprise pilot stage. OpenAI’s engineering teams will define each dot’s responsibilities and tools with the customer, and the call to action is a contact sales form. Nothing has been published on what the email marketing dot sends, through what infrastructure, or how consent and list management are handled.
The general-purpose dot is rolling out to Pro, Business Premium and Enterprise plans. OpenAI’s help centre says Pro users in the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK are excluded. Business Premium users get it in all supported ChatGPT regions. Enterprise admins can enable a beta that is off by default. Rollout is gradual and may take days to reach an account.
A couple of details for email people. A dot can connect to a personal email account and act on it. It cannot have its own email address at launch. OpenAI has published a separate safety note covering read-only background access and approval rules.
More when OpenAI publishes detail on the email marketing pilot or we gain acces and time for testing internally.
