Festival of Email Winner

We have a 1st place winner! Dinara Prudovskaya from Moscow is the winner of our Mars Martian Landing competition. We want to thank all the entrants and the judges for their time and effort. There were several runners up and the creativity shown has blown us away.

Take a look through each of the winning entries below and the judges comments to see what you can learn about making your next email campaign out of this world.

About the competition

To celebrate the (yes fictional) upcoming landing of the first human beings on Mars, we ran a competition to prepare an Email Campaign for the next generation of colonists on Mars during the Festival of Email

You did not need to be an astronaut to enter and was open to all our delegates!

All a delegate needed to do was create an Email Campaign for the first Human Settlement on Mars.

Entrants were advised “before you start to work on your competition, think through the following questions: Who will be on the first Martian settlement? What will they do on Mars? How will they get there? How will they get back? Could you imagine making a new world? What best subject line would you use? Think about what you can tell to people who have the opportunity to create a new world.”

The competition opened on 7th June Submission and closed 16th June MIDNIGHT PST.

First Place

Email Campaign – Congrats! You’re in the Martisnasor Team now

From Our Judges:

Paul Airy – Accessibility

This included the most accessibility features, including live text, semantic elements, a bullet-proof button and good colour contrast (except on the links)

Kait Creamer – Design

“As a non-native Dutch speaker who frequently needs live text, my votes are for…”

Samar Owais – Copyright

“I finally have a winner! There were some incredibly creative emails but I found that the winner to me is the email that stuck to the brief. For me the winner is Dinara from Lead Team (Congrats! You’re in the Martiansor Team now!)

And it’s really just one email that stuck to the brief which was to create a campaign for those who have confirmed they plan to be Martiansor asking them to confirm they will be martians

Their subject line is on point. (Congrats! You’re in the Martisnasor Team now) <- It’s clear and highlights why they’re being emailed.

It asks them to confirm they still want to go to Mars,

It’s short and to the point.

As a first email in a series of emails that will obviously go out in a campaign like this, it’s the perfect first step.”

Second Place

Email Campaign – Life sustaining activities for earthlings
Team – Email Soldiers

Paul Airy – Accessibility
This included live text and the use of text-transform on some of the text

Lauren Meyer – Overall
“I loved the email copy from “life sustaining”, but felt the preview text was sort of wasted, and wish they had played up the Mars / Martian angle more…. Plus, the pictures of aliens in “life sustaining” sort of reminded me of the purple people designers use sometimes instead of really getting into diversity. No more purple people (or green cartoony martians!). “

Third Place

Email Campaign – Mars is a sweet place
Team – Email Soldiers

From Our Judges

Lauren Meyer – Overal

My #3 choice had a wonderful email and click-worthy subject line, but the email (while a joke) was missing a CTA! I would have totally purchased some chocolate from their “store” since the mail was fun enough. IMO, every email should have a CTA (and purpose beyond pure amusement). Props to Email Soldiers for using a domain that is at strict DMARC enforcement!
