About
Postfix is a mail transfer agent for Unix-like systems. It receives messages from network clients or local applications, places them in queues and delivers them through SMTP, LMTP or local delivery agents. It includes a Sendmail-compatible local submission command, allowing it to fit into existing server workflows.

The architecture separates receiving, cleanup, queue management and delivery into cooperating processes. Administrators can configure routing, address rewriting, virtual domains and access policies. Support includes TLS, SASL authentication, IPv6 and internationalised email addresses, with external libraries or operating-system capabilities required for some features.
Postfix can integrate with content filters and Milter applications, including separate signing or filtering tools. It is distributed as source code and through operating-system and appliance packages. Installation, configuration, monitoring and supporting services are the operator’s responsibility; the project documentation covers deployment, performance analysis and troubleshooting.
Administrators can set per-client SMTP connection and rate limits, and use sender-dependent relay and authentication lookups.
