About
Kumo develops KumoMTA, an open-source message transfer agent for outbound email. Its founders are Wez Furlong, Mike Hillyer and Tom Mairs. The software runs on Linux and uses Lua for configuration and policy logic. It is available under the Apache 2.0 licence. Kumo also offers paid support and sponsorship plans, training, custom development and managed services. Its public documentation covers installation, traffic shaping, queues and operational configuration for teams running their own email infrastructure.

Business model
Kumo earns revenue from sponsorship tiers that bundle support, and from professional services. Sponsorship is priced per billion messages per year with no server limit. Silver is listed at $5,000 per billion per year for business-hours support. Gold is $10,000 per billion per year and adds a 24/7 critical-issue SLA and a private Discord channel. Enterprise pricing is on request and adds round-the-clock support, telephone support and refactoring of customer policy scripts. Higher volumes get custom pricing. Services include custom development, training, remote management, MTA migration and infrastructure audits. Kumo does not offer a hosted version.
Free users get the full feature set, the documentation and a community Discord.
