Australia’s corporate regulator has revealed that some of its emails to Gmail users were not delivered for more than five months.
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) said a technical issue affected some emails sent from its @asic.gov.au domain to Gmail accounts between 1 March and 3 August 2026.
ASIC disclosed the problem on 27 August and said it had identified the cause and fixed the issue. It will contact affected customers where further action may be required.
The regulator has not said how many emails were affected or which types of messages failed.
The incident could be significant because ASIC uses email for official communications, including business-name renewal notices and other time-sensitive correspondence.
ASIC has also not disclosed the technical cause, so it is not yet clear whether the messages were rejected by Gmail or failed elsewhere in the sending process.
For email professionals, the incident raises a bigger question: how could a Gmail-specific delivery problem continue for months before being detected and resolved?
